Green Office

A Healthy Planet Starts at Home and the Office

Photo Caption We're committed to business and manufacturing processes that support our pledge to do the right thing when it comes to our products, our environment and our fellow living creatures. That's why by 2020, we plan to have implemented 100% renewable energy, zero waste and a LEED Platinum/ISO 14001 certified green building.

Green Buildings

Currently, we lease our office, factory and warehouse buildings which puts some restrictions on our efforts toward ensuring they’re LEED certified. However, we are working with our office management to make improvements where we can and in 2008, we added new office space in a former distribution warehouse that is much greener. Learn more in our Corporate Sustainability Report.

Waste

We recently hosted a “dumpster dive” event to teach employees about waste reduction. It was quite an education when we combed through every inch of our waste!

Until 2007, we were only recycling our used white paper and mixed plastic, glass and aluminum. We had also been sending certain organic by-products from our production processes off-site for compost.

Today, in addition to all of the items above, we now also recycle wood, corrugated cardboard, shrink wrap chipboard and fiberboard. And, we’ve begun composting the residue from our wastewater pre-treatment process. Even in our offices, break rooms now have composting bins, as well as reusable and compostable utensils—they’re made from potatoes!
